Utility Models on Drugs

Capiz State University (CAPSU) was able to produce anti-parasitic drugs that expel parasitic worms (helminths) and other internal parasites from the host body (chickens/livestock). These anthelmintics are made from non-synthetic/organic materials.

Ethnobotanical Dewormer Composition for Native Chicken

Publication #: PH 2/2012/000524

This model presents a composition for an ethnobotanical dewormer for native chicken using the powder forms of mature seeds of betel nut (Areca catechu) and ipil-ipil (Leucaena lecocephala) as main ingredients. These plants contain constituents that serve as cheap sources of anthelmintics against internal parasitism. Internal parasitism in native chicken can cause severe diarrhea and high mortality. The formulation can be used for the treatment and control of roundworms, including common large roundworms of native chicken (Ascaridia galli), common thread worms (Capillaria specie), and the cecal worm (Heterakis gallinarum) and gape worm (Syngamus trachea).

The present utility model is a composition for an ethnobotanical dewormer for native chickens. The composition makes use of the powder forms of mature seeds of papaya seed (Carica papaya L.) as main ingredient. Birds treated with 6g/kg bodyweight of the papaya seed dewormer composition was found to be comparable with the birds treated with commercial dewormer drug.
